Mother Earth is very pregnant with humanity, and the concept

for creating an umbilical cord for the birthing exists now.

An umbilical, for the birthing of the multitudes of humanity

into the promise of the vast resources of space, energy and

raw materials awaiting life in the solar system, can be

made. Up the umbilical can pour Earth's teeming

civilizations: four billion industrious, peacably

constructive people needed to build, operate, and live in

the first space setttlements at GEO, Geosynchronous Earth

Orbit.

The concept for creating this kind of umbilical is recent.

It is based on a new way for transferring energy, materials

and information from place to place, while providing a

physically supporting structure for carrying moving payloads

along the outside of the tube along its span. This concept

for creating a mass transportation umbilical elevator from

Earth surface to GEO consists of an evacuated tube

containing a stream of orbital velocity mass travelling

within it. The tube excludes the air from the path of the

high speed mass stream, and refines its position. The mass

stream is in electrokinetic connection with its environs,

supporting its protective tube and supplying power to

payload/people elevators travelling olong the outside of the

tube. Some of the mass stream can be materials destined

for construction at GEO. Up the elevators can go teeming

humanity and the initial construction materials for the

first space settlements and solar power satellites.

Some may view "Microelevator, Starbridge, Launchloop,

Energy/Transport" as merely an exotic transportation system

which could move massive amounts of people and living

materials from Earth to space; yet another view is that it

is an umbilical cord in the overdue birthing of mankind into

space. (And what a sigh of relief Mother Earth will give

after this birthing, when her surface population returns to

the mere 100,000 or so which she can indefinitely support in

a totally symbiotic, balanced ecology mode!)

Will pregnant mother give birth to child, or will both

perish? The time is ripe, civilization teems from within.

Let us prepare for the birthing process to begin!
