Activities & CourageThis is the arena of those who will make the Escalator High bridging structure physically happen. If they don't make it a physical reality, it won't be there for the rest of us to utilize in expanding civilization. And they won't build it until they are assured that they have fully useable instructions as to how to do it, and until it is framed into situations where they will recieve much reward of esteem, wealth, and they will appear quite desireable to those around them while they go about the highly publicized exciting adventures of building and operating the space access escalator systems. (These are the "Artisan Temperament" people, in formal Temperament Theory lingo.) These are those who hunger to publically compete with each other for rewards. And those who, when "the fat is in the fire", exterminate the rest of us. An escalator is not a very exciting thing, by nature, as compared to the roar and fire and smoke of a huge rocket launch to space lifting those who risk their lives thereby, and thus does not attract those who gain points by participating in attention-getting space adventures. All the attractive depicted space adventures that attracted the imagination of my childhood, youth, and adulthood were carried out by fictional rocketry vehicles; then made real starting in the 1950's, so I too feel the effect. So far, although I am an Idealist temperament man, not of this Artisan temperament arena, all the activites have had to be done by me, despite my ever efforts to gain help. An outline of these activities include: Originally, I attempted to get the National Commission on Space's interest in the concepts of Keith Lofstrom (Launch Loop), Rod Hyde (Starbridge) and Earl Smith (Texas Universe Railroad), as well as my own "Mooncable" anchored lunar L-1 fiberglass space elevator concept, and synchrounous two-body shuttling orbiter concept, and testified regarding these before the NCS in San Francisco in November 1985, despite my fear of public speaking. Since the resulting NCS report did not mention those concepts, I resolved to pursue my own effort to iron out the conceptual difficulties, whatever I was capable of doing, since I felt that large scale space access was a necessary key for civilization's abundant future, and that somehow electric powered immense ground to space structures would probably be the way to achieve it. Obtaining a 300 baud modem for my Adam Computer, and linked the the GEnie computer network as a member of the National Space Society, files I wrote and placed in the GEnie network "Space and Science Library" on the subject, 1988 - circa 1995, including many on the subject of KESTS to GEO (acronym for Kinetic Energy Supported Transportation Structures to Geostationary Earth Orbit.) Contributions to the RAND solicitation of space ideas, including KESTS to GEO. Wrote an article describing a meditation visualization of creating and using the technique for space access and its applications, which was published by Meditation Magazine. Semi-formal presentations to the Los Angeles Chapter of the International Society Systems Sciences (ISSS.) Writeups and descriptions placed on the internet web, URL http://home.earthlink.net/~jedcline, 1996 to present. Some of these pages are quite primitive as I struggled to figure out how to write html using a text writer and simple graphics software and converters, yet some of these pages remain available on the web. Presentation to the Space Studies Institute conference at Princeton in 1997, but which was not published by them. Understandable, because it was not in direct line with the noble vision of their late founder, Princeton professor Dr Gerard O'Neil, whose Space Colonization vision's writings strongly inspired my efforts over the years. Efforts to gain interest in the concept by employer Orbital Sciences Corp, but which were ignored, 1999-2001. Understandable, since their business is focused on chemical powered launch vehicles, not space access per se. Presentation and publication of technical papers on the subject at American Society of Civil Engineers' space conferences in 2000, 2002, and 2004 (Albuquerque, NM, and League City, TX.) Understandable, since this is more of a Civil Engineering bridge structure transportation system than an aerospace vehicle system, for now. |
