One does not build a bridge to nowhere, one builds a bridge to reach out and embrace new territory with its resources, living space becoming useable, the stuff of growth and revitalization. In the case of KESTS to GEO, its bridging of the ground to high earth orbit would enable applications not just for growth and revitalization, but also to solve most of the civilization-shaking problems now in process. This seems a worthy effort, even if not so exciting as the strife of today's news, if "strife" attention can be re-directed to "striving."
There are serveral applications which need immediate attention, which KESTS to GEO has potential for enabling adequately in the time frame. Those problems it could enable solving in ways far better than any other ways I know of so far, are:
1. First, to lift the materials to build and maintain the vast fleet of huge Satellite Solar Power Stations in GEO, to generate adequate clean electrical power for all the nations of the world.
2. Second, building solar powered total recycling plants in GEO, for the toxins nature cannot recycle.
3. Third, low cost electrical lift of conventional spacecraft launch vehicles up to high energy spaceports in GEO, saving huge amounts of fuel and thereby vastly extending their missions.
4. Fourth, it would become possible to build large passively shielded space habitats in GEO, for tourism, retirement communities at first, perhaps becoming a major extention of civilization in time.
